Maintaining bagpipes is critical to acheiving the best sound possible. Bagpipes will change according to playing and climate conditions therefore they should be regularly serviced to remove excess moisture or oiled to avoid cracking. 

Hardie's tips for maintenance:

Tip 1: Check your pipe bag is airtight once a month or if they feel unusually hard to blow.
Tip 3: Ensure all joints are hemped correctly for ease of movement while tuning.
Tip 2: Place chanter tape on every hole of the chanter for accurate and efficient tuning.
Tip 4: Store your bapipes in a cool dry environment.
Tip 5: Play your pipes regularly for best performance.
